Where's Abi?

Hey. Yep. I've been MIA from the website. Not on the road. Still writing songs and playing my guitar, and even was in the studio last week recording a demo, but haven't found much time to tell anybody about it. The main reason is that I have a cool new "day job." Some might even call it a "real job." It's real fun and happens 5 days a week, so I guess they'd be right.

What am I doing? I'm the Public Programs Coordinator at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. What that means is that I make just about all of this happen, along with a great team of writers and historians, plus marketing, operations, technical, and customer service staff.

It's quite a change from the total independence of being a touring singer/songwriter and I'm still figuring out how to organize my creative life around a 40+ hour work week, but I'm having a ball. And wasn't I always trying to figure out how to organize my time?

I am playing around Nashville, but long distance touring is on hold for a while. I do miss all of you out there across the country. Now it's your turn to come visit me!

It's Almost My Favorite Holiday!

I love New Year's! Its all about assessing where you've been, what you've done and what you want to do next. I do that almost obsessively all day long, but at the end of December, it's nice to take a comprehensive look back over the past year. 2011 has been one of huge change and transition for me. I've been hibernating a bit -- from touring, promoting, and updating the website. I'll tell you more about that over the next month. And I'll make some plans for 2012. And tell you about those, too. Thanks for visiting and inspiring me to be creative. Now, go have some fun reflecting on the past and planning for the future. Cheers!

Sticky Summer

I'm still loving Nashville and being in this sticky southern summer. Tomatoes and cantaloupes are ripening and all the people are trying to submerge their bodies in water as often as possible. I'm trying to make some melodies that stick in your head. And practicing my guitar all the time. I'm working on some Doc Watson flat-picking tunes. But a whole lot slower than Doc plays 'em.

A couple of fun shows this month... July 13 at Douglas Corner Cafe in Nashville. This is a great place to hear songwriters and I'm excited to be re-uniting with Erik Dylan and Myla Smith whom I loved playing with last month.

Then on July 16, I'll be in the DC area sharing a night with Liz Longley who I've been hearing rave reviews of. Can't wait to hear her myself. I think this show is sold out, but you can get on the wait list. More details about both on the tour page.

Get to the water!

Nesting in Nashville

Happy Spring! I'm having a great time digging in the to Nashville music scene, writing lots of songs on my own and with other people and getting super inspired by all the amazing musicians here. Last month I drove out across the plains to play in Texas and Oklahoma and loved that, too. One day I'll strike the perfect balance between travel and home-life. Also, I ran a 1/2 marathon! 2011 is just fascinating so far. Can't wait to see what happens next. Hope seeing YOU is part of it.

Nashville... For A While

Abi isn't known to stay in one place for very long, but two moves in two weeks is pretty radical. OK, so they aren't as big as they sound. One was to a new apartment one town over, and the other was bringing a suitcase to a bedroom in Nashville. She'll be in Tennessee writing and singing and soaking in the tunes for most of the rest of 2010. More show dates being booked, too!

Spring

The sap is flowing (is that what you call it?) in the New England maple trees, and Abi's creative juices are, too. Pretty soon she'll need to record all these new songs....

Nashville week

After a full weekend of shows in New England, Abi is in Nashville on a writing and listening binge. She's also not complaining about winter weather in the 40's.

Winter Continues

Routine is nice, isn't it? Snow, rain, write, sing, drive, ski, run, type, knit, watch a movie -- over and over for a couple of months. I can handle that.

Winter Plans

Abi is hunkering down, getting ready for snow and planning to write bunches of songs over these cold Berkshire winter months. A little cross country skiing, a couple trips to Nashville, and some really fun shows up and down the east coast are on the calendar, too....

Happy Spring!

Abi is raking and pulling weeds and planting seeds and hoping they can fend for themselves while she is away. April will finish with shows in Ann Arbor, Portland, Tacoma, and Bellingham. All are new cities for Abi, tell your friends!
Friday, April 3rd, 2009 10:03 AM

Midwest, then "home"

Abi is headed back from her old home to her new home, via an older home. It's all very confusing, and that's probably why her car feels so homey.

The point: Midwest shows this weekend, New England later this month. Spring hasn't felt this good in a while.

Here comes SXSW!

When Abi isn't running around, trying to hear as much music and eat as many tacos as she can, you'll find her singing here:
